AIM OF THE PROJECT
The aim of the project is to offer an adapted living to older people who need care and to deliver care that efficiently matches to the need of the elderly.
With adapted living we assume the following basic principles:
Small scale
Small scale living units improve the quality of living of the elderly. We are opting for a model of small scale living units where elderly with a need of care live together in groups of eight.
Domestic
Working with small groups living in a homelike atmosphere with adapted furniture.
Standardised
We let elderly live in a way as normal as possible ; the small living entities create a familiar atmosphere in which care, household activities, entertainment and other possible functions all are elements of an integrated living.
Living in small communities
Living in small communities enhances social contacts, activity level and participating attitudes of the elderly.
Privacy and autonomy
Small scale living units with spacious single rooms meet with the need for privacy and autonomy of the elderly.
The accomodation of the rooms is adapted to the level of autonomy of its occupants and of his/her need of care, so that tailored care can be offered.
Living units with differentiated accommodations accordingly to the different needs of care will be located within a well defined residential care area. In this area there is a central care unit where care can be provided all day and night. It is important to note that, next to the elderly living units, young families and a nursery and primary school as well are located within the area.

Housing supply
A number of small housing units for physically dependent elderly or older people with dementia is planned. The housing units are built following a specific model that permits the elderly to live next to each other in small groups (eight persons). Each housing unit has a lounge/dining area for the community and eight private rooms behind. The model is conceived in a way that guarantees the privacy and autonomy of each living unit. The circulation of the occupants through the housing unit, for example, is going through a basement corridor and don't disturbs the privacy of occupants in their rooms.
In the residential care area are furthermore located some service flats where elderly with a greater independence or with just a restricted need of care will live autonomically. If care is needed they can be asked for from the nearby central care unit. The service flats are conceived in a way that emphasises comfort and security of the elderly.
Finally, there is planned a range of social housing units, constructed following the model of life time houses, which can suit to all kind of families, with younger and older people.
The project implicates a sustained effort to integrate the living of different generations. The presence of a nursery and primary school will enhance intergenerational contacts and activities.
